Seat Rushing Weekend

Two day weekend session in which you will learn how to weave a rush seat for a chair. Country chairs were traditionally woven with locally grown natural rushes, which were wound around the seat frame to make a durable, resilient, comfortable and sweet smelling seat. It is a pleasant and satisfying technique to learn.

We use English rushes harvested from wetlands in Bedfordshire, or salt rushes from Holland. Bring a chair, or a stool, or if you don’t have one we have a few at the studio for students to practise on.

10.00am to 4.00pm both Saturday and Sunday.

This session is for weaving with rush only. We cannot teach you weaving with other materials such Danish cord or seagrass.
